Manchester City vs Arsenal: Key Stats Preview

The third Gameweek of the Premier League 2021/22 will begin when the defending champions Manchester City will host Arsenal on Saturday (28th August).

Man City vs Arsenal: Match Preview

Man City are currently in the ninth position in the PL points table with three points after their first two matches of this season. They started this season with a 1-0 away defeat against Tottenham Hotspur but then thrashed the promoted club Norwich City (by 5-0) in their first home game of this season.

On the other hand, Arsenal have had a horrible start in this season as they are currently in the 19th position in the same PL points table.

After the debutant PL team Brentford welcomed them with the 2-0 scoreline in the hosts’ favour, the Gunners similarly suffered another 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at home.

While it is a very tough time for Mikel Arteta’s boys in the league, their latest 6-0 away victory against West Bromwich Albion (in the second round of the Carabao Cup 2021/22) has brought some relief to the club.

Coming back to the forthcoming clash, both City and Arsenal are desperate for a win as a defeat will only raise immense pressure on both the managers and players.

Here are some H2H Key Stats between Manchester City and Arsenal:

In Premier League history, Arsenal have never lost all their first three matches of a season. Last time, they suffered defeats in all their first three matches of a top-flight season in 1954/55.

While Arsenal are still waiting for their first goal of this PL season, they have never experienced zero goals for their side in their first three matches of any PL season. Last time, they experienced such embarrassment in a top-flight season during the 1953/54 season when they failed to score in all their first three matches.

Manchester City have won both their last two Premier League home matches by 5-0 margins (vs Everton and vs Norwich City). In PL history, only twice the teams have managed to claim a victory with the 5+ goals margin in three successive home games. After Chelsea recorded that in August 2010, the Sky Blues recreated that historic feat in October 2017.

Since their FA Cup 2019/20 semi-final win in July 2020, Arsenal have lost three consecutive matches against Man City. In their last 11 overall meetings, City won 10 matches while Arsenal managed to win only one game.

Arsenal failed to score at least one goal in their last two away matches against Manchester City. Also, the Gunners have failed to score against the Sky Blues in six out of their last seven Premier League meetings, including all the last four PL matches.

Manchester City are unbeaten against Arsenal at home since May 2016 as the Sky Blues are currently following a 5-match winning streak against the Gunners at home.

Last time, Arsenal beat City at Etihad Stadium on 18th January 2015 where the visitors claimed a 2-0 victory. Since then, this home side is now dominating with the 5-match winning streak against the same visitors after a draw result.

In the Premier League, Arsenal last time won against Manchester City on 21st December 2015 when the Gunners won their home game by 2-1. Since then, Man City are unbeaten against Arsenal in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, including the present 8-match winning streak in the same league.
