Manchester United revive their interest in Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes was a primary target for the Red Devils last summer. After an imminent transfer failed to materialize, the Portuguese international ended up staying at Lisbon. Now, it seems that Manchester United have decided to renew their interest in the midfielder

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to add a midfielder of high caliber following the poor outing by the club's midfielders this season. He has marked the Portuguese as his priority signing in the January transfer window.

They have been also targeting Tottenham's Christian Eriksen and Leicester City star James Maddison to bolster their strength in midfield. But, it is uncertain whether any of them will make a move to Old Trafford.

Eriksen is rumored to seal a transfer to Inter Milan whereas the Foxes aren't willing to let Maddison go. Manchester United have also tried signing Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff but the 22-year old eliminated their advances last summer and turned down the offer.

Having run out of alternatives, the Red Devils will now submit their transfer request to Sporting Lisbon to sign the 25-year old. Fernandes has scored six goals and provided seven assists in just thirteen outings for his club this season.

He was also in the transfer radar last season as he scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists for his team. This prompted many European clubs to get his signature. Even the player himself admitted that Tottenham Hotspur came close to seal the transfer but owing to the fees and limited time, Spurs decided to back off.

Fernandes can prove to be a very good signing for Manchester United. The midfielder can solve their struggles in front of goal and he can bolster the club's middle area in a significant manner. He recently signed a contract extension with Sporting which keeps him at the club till 2023 and his release clause has also risen to a hefty 100 million Euros.
