Newcastle United closing in on this £20m rated Serie A winger

Premier League side Newcastle United are hopeful of landing Inter Milan right-winger Valentino Lazaro during the winter transfer window. The Serie A giants are willing to let the Austrian leave San Siro after the arrival of Ashley Young from Manchester United.

The 23-year-old moved from Hertha Berlin last summer for £20million but has struggled for playing time at the Italian giants. He has started just three league games for Antonio Conte’s side.

In 50 league starts over the past two seasons, the midfielder was directly involved in 16 goals, five goals and eleven assists.

And Magpies boss Steve Bruce dropped a hint that the club are working on a deal to bring the right winger to the North-East club.

Asked about Lazaro at his press conference on Friday, Bruce said: “It would be wrong to talk about individuals. I don’t want to comment on that just yet.”

Struggling Premier League side West Ham United have also been linked with Lazaro, who can play either as a winger or wing-back.

Newcastle United are yet to sign anyone in the transfer window but a wide-man is top of Bruce’s priority list.

He held a transfer meeting with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley on Wednesday and described the talks as “very positive.”

Bruce said: “It went very well. We showed him what we are trying to do and he was fully supportive.

“The funds are available if we need them, that's always been the case. We have one or two targets in mind but, if they don't come off, I'm not going to jump into the window - they have to improve us.

“Mike was interested in who we were looking at, which areas, what type of player. He took a genuine interest and it was a good meeting.

“Let's see if we can pull those signings off, we hope we can and we are doing everything possible.”
