Real Madrid end their city rival's unbeatern run in La Liga this season

Real Madrid 2-0 Athletico Madrid: (Match Report)

The Los Blancos finally seem to have settled after some shocking results in the recent past. Real Madrid handed the Rojiblancos their first defeat of the season as Diego Simeone's side succumbed to a dominant Real performance.

And so was Zinedine Zidane's reaction after the game. Luka Modric, Casemiro, and Toni Kroos started only for the third time together this season and they looked effective together in the Madrid Derby.

Real Madrid took the lead through Casemiro's header and then extended their ecstatic performance which resulted in a Jan Oblak own goal in the second half.

Toni Kroos had a real influence on the game as he managed to complete 87 of the 90 passes he attempted, the most in a derby since the 2005-06 season.

The Real boss was further questioned about the trio in the centre of the pitch, who now have Federico Valverde and Martin Odegaard as equally deserving options.

"They are at the level of the three Champions Leagues we won in a row," Zidane said. "They are playing at a very high level."

"And then playing fast from one side to the other and with diagonals, we found gaps. They're f***ing great, they're exceptional."

"Karim too, and Lucas, he is phenomenal, and Carvajal, and our captain Ramos and Varane. They are all very good."

The Los Blancos were severely concerned about their performances after a shaky start to their Champions League group stage games.

The competition was intense and they needed a victory in their ultimate group stage game to go through. After a dominant display against Sevilla in the Spanish top-flight, they were successful in disrupting the Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach's backline.

However, it was the derby win that was required for the team, and now that they have clinched it, Zidane and co. would hope that things remain the same way ahead.
