Tottenham Hotspur closing in on this 22 year old Dutch forward

North London giants Spurs are set to bolster their attacking options with the signing of PSV attacker Steven Bergwijn, according to reports in England.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to recruit a new attacker to his squad in January. Spurs have already lost their key striker Harry Kane to an injury that could see him miss the rest of the season.

They have been linked with several forwards across Europe. However, it seems that they are closing in on PSV forward Steven Bergwijn.

Spurs appear to be very much impressed with the versatility the 22-year-old Dutchman has on offer. He is capable of playing anywhere in the front three and Mourinho admires that.

According to reports, Mourinho and Daniel Levy have met with the player's representatives this week as they attempt to thrash out a deal.

Bergwijn is expected to cost the north London club around £30million. The deal is set to be complete within the next 48 hours.

PSV claim that a deal has yet to be agreed with Spurs but it seems that a deal is in process.

PSV hosted FC Twente in the Eredivisie on Sunday afternoon, but Bergwijn was withdrawn from the matchday squad which added further fuel to the speculations.

The club's interim coach Ernest Faber said Bergwijn had asked to be left out of the squad because of the transfer.

Faber said: "It's his choice. We only need players who are 100 per cent focused on PSV."

The Dutchman is an excellent dribbler and has a very direct approach towards the game. He also has a good eye for goals.

The 22-year-old has won seven caps for his country. He is set to feature for Ronald Koeman's side at Euro 2020 in the summer.

He has made 29 appearances in all competitions for PSV this season, netting six goals and assisting 13. However, PSV are not enjoying a good season by any means.

Spurs have been linked with strikers like Ze Luis, Kristoffer Piatek, Willian Jose and Islam Slimani and all of them are typical number nines. However, Bergwijn is a player of a whole another dimension.

However, Mourinho admires versatile and hard-working players. The 22 year old Dutchman seems to have ticked those boxes.
