US Open 2022 Predictions:  Can Serena Williams end her career with a US Open title?

With the US Open 2022 all set for kick-off this week, the women’s section of the draw will have some of the big names like Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka, and Emma Raducanu compete for the top honours. 

The US Open will also bid adieu to six-time champion and home favourite Serena Williams as she enters her final Grand Slam before hanging her racket. On the flip side, other names like Anett Kontaveit, Maria Sakkari, and Ons Jabeur will also try to clinch glory.

Can Iga Swiatek conquer New York?

So far it has been a sensational 2022 for Iga Swiatek, the No.1 Seed has played no-nonsense tennis with some sublime pieces of work across the various surfaces. Swiatek has amassed four WTA 1000 titles along with a WTA 500 title. 

Adding to this is her success at the French Open. She lost in the semifinal of the Australian Open while an early exit in Wimbledon saw her miss out on the big prize. She will once again be ready to end the Grand Slam year on high and add another trophy to her impressive cabinet.

Can Serena end on High?

After conquering the global stage for almost two and a half decades, Serena Williams will bid farewell to the beautiful game at the US Open. 

One of the greatest players of all time albeit of gender, Serena will face Danka Kovinić in the first round and could be bidding her farewell at any time. 

A career that has seen her conquer every single major honour she will also have her sister Venus on her side as they were handed a wildcard in the women’s doubles. 

It now remains to be seen whether Serena could do the unexpected and go level with Margaret Court for 24 Grand Slam titles or who conquers her for one final time.

Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari eye first Grand Slam titles

While the draw is kind for the likes of Maria Sakkari and Ons Jabeur, it will be interesting how they deal with the pressure of the expectations. 

Jabeur lost in the final of the Wimbledon and will attempt to go one better this time. Sakkari will also try to go one better having lost in the semifinal of the 2021 US Open. 

We can also expect the likes of Emma Raducanu, the defending champion to make her claim for the title. While the seeded contingent also contains former Grand Slam champions Simona Halep, Garbiñe Muguruza, and Coco Gauff, who can’t be underestimated. 

A host of former Grand Slam winners contain defending Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, while she is joined by Victoria Azarenka, Barbora Krejčíková, Petra Kvitová, Naomi Osaka and Jeļena Ostapenko among others.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to beat Anett Kontaveit in the final.
