Struggling German giants could be set for a summer clear-out

Bayern Munich are going through one of their worst seasons in many years and it could reflect in the summer as per reports in Germany. It is strongly claimed that the club could be set a major summer clear-out.

With a relatively lesser-known manager Hansi Flick at the helm as caretaker boss until the end of the season, Bayern's run of seven titles on the succession looks to be in serious jeopardy.

Bayern's inconsistency this season sees them sit third in the table after 17 games. They are four points behind leaders RB Leipzig and one point behind Borussia Monchengladbach.

Former manager of the club Niko Kovac paid the price for Bayern's poor start to the season but now reports claim that many of the club's high-profile players could face the same fortune in the summer.

Loanee from Barcelona Philippe Coutinho is the first player named on the list of potential big-name exits from the Allianz Arena. And, it would mean a huge setback for the Brazilian playmaker.

Coutinho failed to make too much of an impact at Barcelona following his big-money move from Liverpool and was eventually loaned to Bayern. The loan move has rather made things worse for the midfield wizard.

A return to Barcelona would only mean that the Catalan giants will once again look to cut their losses on the player and his future does not look bright at all.

Coutinho has seven goals and seven assists in 22 games this season which does not look like a very poor return. But, it is believed that he will need to deliver much more in the remainder of the season if he isto justify splurging the £102million it would take to make the move permanent.

With Ernesto Valverde departing Barcelona, Coutinho may also feel that he has a chance to impress new boss Quique Setien and revive his career at the Camp Nou next season.

The Brazilian also has a long list of suitors in the Premier League with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham all having previously held an interest.

Ivan Perisic is another that is on loan at Bayern this season and it looks likely that he will not be at the club next season. Another player who could be on his way out of the club is Thiago Alcantara with his contract up for expiry in 18 months.

Another player who could on his way out is Javi Martinez as well as defender Jerome Boateng. While the former is strongly linked with a return to Spain, Boateng is likely to make a move to the Premier League.
