Game Analysis

After reaching a career-high ranking of World number 2, Medvedev has begun well in Marseille. He had earlier lost in straight sets to Dusan Lajovic in the first round of the Rotterdam Open.

Medvedev admitted his struggle to hit winners in the slow conditions was the reason for his disappointing loss.

He has been in good form on hard courts having reached the semifinals of the US Open and emerging as the winner of the Nitto ATP Finals last year. The Russian is very hard to beat when he has a strong serve.

On the other hand, Sinner depends heavily on his powerful groundstrokes to accumulate points. When he is in good touch, the Italian hardly misses a ball. He can be a tad inconsistent sometimes by committing unforced errors and does not finish off points easily at the net.

"He is a really strong player, so it is going to be an interesting match, that's a tough draw, I could definitely have an easier draw with playing Egor straight away and Jannik in the quarters, but it's also good to play if you are actually ready to win the tournament or not," said Medvedev praising Sinner and sharing his views on the draw.
"I tried to play deep and play my game, but it is never easy when someone hits quite hard, matches can change very fast, so I tried to stay there in every point," opined Sinner after beating Gaston in the round of 16.
