Manchester United were fortunate that Leicester City were stunned by Leeds United as Brendan Rodgers' side missed a massive opportunity to leapfrog the Red Devils. However, they were the luckiest too as Liverpool picked up a huge win against David Moyes' Hammers and are just a point behind Manchester United.

United have a tough test ahead as they play Southampton and Everton back-to-back and dropping points here would double the pressure once they play the teams in the top six.

Ralph Hassenhuttl's side have had one of the best starts in their Premier League history but three consecutive losses and injuries to key players have stumbled their chances of fighting for a European spot.

Things are not done yet but with so many injuries, it will be very difficult for Southampton to get back to the way they were in the initial stages of the competition.

Out of the last 19 meetings between the two, the Red Devils have managed ten wins, while Southampton have won twice, with seven draws in the tie.

The home side will be desperate for a win and any other result would mount solid pressure when they play their other games.

The team has played a lot of games in this busy schedule and several key players are yet to find their best form. In their last five games in all competitions, Manchester United have lost only one game against Sheffield United, a game where they should've ended well.

As far as Southampton are concerned, their last five games in all competitions have been three losses and three wins but all their losses have been the league games.

Both the teams will be up for the grab as Manchester United need it to keep the second spot and maintain the pressure over their city rivals, while Southampton want to avoid any chances of dropping into the relegation zone in the future.

Manchester United's home form has been disappointing and that will be something the Saints would want to take advantage of. However, the last meeting between the sides saw a resilient United side who fought till the end and went home with all the points.
