Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich: UCL 2021 Quarter Final Second Leg Preview and Prediction

After a scintillating first leg at the Allianz Arena, the Champions League will witness another thriller as Bayern Munich visit Parc des Princes for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

The first leg meeting between the two sides was a dynamic one with PSG and Mauricio Pochettino showing the growth this side has seen since the Champions League Final of the 2019-20 season.

Bayern Munich are not out of it and Paris Saint-Germain will have to plan the game to perfection.

Paris Saint Germain vs Bayern: Recent Form

PSG Recent Form

The home side prevailed over Strasbourg without any problem, while the Bavarians could only manage to get one point against Union Berlin.

Last time out against Bayern, Kylian Mbappe was the star of the day for Paris Saint-Germain, and he gave them a lead just two minutes into the game. The Frenchman also scored the winning goal and took everyone by surprise with his low shot past Manuel Neuer.

However, the underrated star of the day was Neymar who was involved in setting up the first two goals of the game for PSG, finding Mbappe in the second minute, and Marquinhos, who was taken off moments after he scored.

However, PSG will be wary of the return of Robert Lewandowski and the fact that Pochettino and co haven't been the best in their homeland.

Paris Saint-Germain have clinched a victory in just one of their last five games at home in all competitions and this rendezvous with the defending champions of Europe may not end the way they would want.

A defeat here would be PSG'S first back-to-back losses at home since 2009, but it may also put them out of the Champions League again.

However, Les Parisiens are unbeaten against German sides at home, but this record may just be vanquished by Hansi Flick's side.

Considering Bayern's record in the past season, a defeat would certainly hurt them as they have cruised past this stage on nine occasions out of ten in the past ten seasons.

Bayern Munich Recent Form

Both the teams have their injury concerns but this night may not come again, and both of these European giants are aware of the repercussions if they miss out on the game on Tuesday night.

Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten in their last six Champions League games, with five wins and a draw, while their opponents and six-time European Champions, Bayern Munich have lost twice, and won the rest their last six UCL displays.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern: Team News

For the Parisiens, Marco Verratti may return if he tests negative for the virus. Marquinhos is a doubt, while Danilo Pereira may take his role.

This will be possible as Leandro Paredes is back from the ban, while Abdou Diallo may feature too. Mauro Icardi is in contention too, and his condition will be assessed before the game,

Keylor Navas' substitution in the game against Strasbourg may cost PSG another UCL title too.

The Costa Rican's absentee would be a huge blow for the home side, especially looking at his performances against Barcelona and the first leg against Bayern Munich. However, PSG fans would hope that he does return for the game.

For the visitors, Robert Lewandowski has returned to training, which means he is most likely to feature. Kingsley Coman though is an addition to the injury list, while Niklas Sule is sidelined too.

Lucas Hernandez will try to shake off his bruised rib to play a part in the game, but a fully fit Alphonso Davies is a more favorable selection for the German giants.

Paris Saint-Germain possible starting lineup: Navas; Dagba, Pereira, Kimpembe, Diallo; Gueye, Paredes; Di Maria, Neymar, Draxler; Mbappe

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup: Neuer; Pavard, Boateng, Alaba, Davies; Kimmich, Martinez; Sane, Muller, Coman; Lewandowski.

Paris Saint Germain vs Bayern: Prediction

Bayern Munich may be the defending champions, but Paris Saint-Germain have shown more promise this season. The first meeting was enough to see how they have developed mentally under Mauricio Pochettino and they are the more likely option to progress.

However, if Navas is ruled out and doesn't feature in this game, Bayern would use it as an advantage with Lewandowski back in his position, hungry and waiting for an opportunity to pounce.

Overall, we expect a game that may go right down to the wire.

Sportco predicts Paris Saint Germain to win the tie and go through to the semi-finals.
