PSG Squad 2021-22 season: Will Messi be the final piece in the jigsaw for PSG?

PSG has had a transfer window for the history books. Getting one of the greatest players of all time, for free and that is not even the start.

The PSG squad for the 2021-22 season is now, without any doubt, one of the best teams in Europe with the best attacking trio.

The Qatari-backed club have managed to bring in six-time Ballon D'or winner Lionel Messi, Euro 2020 winning goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, World Cup and four times European Champion, Sergio Ramos, 2021 Italian Serie A winner, Achraf Hakimi, and 2019 Champions League winner, Georginio Wijnaldum in this summer’s transfer window, while they only spent €60 million. Talk about having one of the best transfer windows of all time.

They will be complimented well with the already present crop of world-class talent of Marco Verratti, Angel Di Maria, and Marquinhos are also present in the current PSG Squad for the 2021-22 season.

PSG has the perfect blend of young players, like Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi along with serial winners at the highest level in the form of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, along with players in their absolute prime, such as Neymar Jr and Marco Verratti.

Bench Strength

The bench has got enough depth as well with talents Mauro Icardi, Leandro Parades, Julian Draxler, Ander Herrera and many others. Apart from the outfield players, they have two World Class goalkeepers, Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It is safe to say that this PSG squad won’t be worried about having a shortage of world-class players. The PSG squad for the 2021-22 season might be one of the most complete squads of all time.

Will they finally be able to complete their dream of winning the UCL and turn it into a reality? It is very much possible.

PSG Possible Lineup for 2021-22 Season

Manager Profile: Mauricio Pochettino

When you have so many options at your disposal, with very little room for error, the pressure will be intense on the PSG manager.

Mauricio Pochettino will be judged on how this squad performs in the latter stages of the Champions League. Anything less than a UCL final appearance this season would be considered a failure for the Argentinian manager.

Former Spurs manager who even brought them close to European glory back in 2018/2019 when they reached the finals of the UEFA Champions League. However, he was not able to bring in any trophies for the London-based club.

In his first season at Paris, Mauricio Pochettino finally brought an end to his trophyless managerial career as he won the French Cup and the French Super Cup in the 2020/21 season.

Mauricio Pochettino would be looking to set a system that would provide flexibility to the front three of Neymar-Mbappe-Messi.

We know that the front three are not the best when it comes to defending, hence, the onus will be on the PSG midfield to put in an extra shift during the off-the-ball pressing.

Will he be able to manage so many superstars in the PSG squad for the 2021-22 season? We will have to wait and see how everything plays out for the head coach and the team.

Key Players

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi could be the missing piece in the jigsaw for the Paris club. PSG would be banking on the former Barcelona maestro to deliver in crunch games in the Champions League.

Since the past few years, Messi has evolved his game to more of a playmaking role. At PSG, we can expect him to drift infield for as he always does from the right, to thread deadly through balls to Mbappe and Neymar.

Kylian Mbappe

The youngster has been arguably the best player of the club for the last 4 years, given that Neymar Jr spent a lot of time in injury. He is predicted to be amongst the footballing greats in the future, and with Leo Messi as his teammate, he will be able to learn a lot and follow in the direction.

Neymar Jr.

Whenever Neymar is on the pitch, he is always a nuisance to the opposition’s defense, and PSG knows that very well themselves. His numbers are no joke either, he has proven himself to be one of the most efficient players in the history of the game.

During Neymar's stint at Barcelona, his partnership with Messi and Suarez (MSN) formed a deadly trio and won the treble with the club in 2014-15.

Achraf Hakimi

Achraf Hakimi could be one of the best additions to the PSG Squad for the 2021-22 season. Fans who followed the Serie A last season would be aware of this youngster's potential.

Hakimi created chance after chance from right back, and even scoring a goal in his Ligue 1 debut. We are sure that Achraf Hakimi is going to have fun combining with Messi on the right side of the pitch.

Marco Verratti

The Italian talisman is the epitome of consistency. His fitness is excellent and his game is no less, he has been one of the best midfielders in the world for the past few years but somehow has been underrated.

He showed how good he can play at this year’s Euros as he proved himself to be one of the most important players in Italy’s success.

So what are your expectations from this modern-day Galactico PSG squad for the coming 2021-22 season? Can they manage to win the treble or would be they implode during the latter stages of the Champions League?
