Caeleb Dressel smashes the 100m freestyle Olympic record in style

US swimmer, Caeleb Dressel breezed to his first-ever individual Gold at the Olympics with a first-place finish in the 100m freestyle competition at the Tokyo Olympics today.

This was Dressel's first individual gold at the Olympics having missed out on an individual gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Dressel also helped team USA to gold in the Men's 4 x 100m freestyle relay which was held on 26th July at the Tokyo Olympics.  

Caeleb Dressel had to withstand some stiff competition from defending Olympic champion, Australia’s Kyle Chalmers, to win by 0.06 seconds.

The American not only won his individual gold but also smashed the 100m freestyle record at the Olympics.

"I wasn't worried about anything," he said. "During the race there's only so much you can do. Whatever's gonna happen is going to happen," quoted Dressel after a nail-biting finish.

 

"I stuck to my race plan – if it got me first, OK, if it got me second OK. I wouldn't change a thing."

This victory for the American swimmer is an example of continuous perseverance at one's craft. Caeleb Dressel has worked his way up in the last few years winning an incredible 13 titles over the past two world championships.

His performances also drew comparisons with the G.O.A.T, Michael Phelps.

Caeleb Dressel couldn't control his tears at the podium after winning the 100m freestyle event at the Tokyo Olympics.

🏊At the 2013 World Championship Trials, Caeleb Dressel became the youngest swimmer in US history to swim under 50 seconds in the 100m free.

🏊Dressel went undefeated in the 50-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships during his four years at the University of Florida.

🏊After some impressive performances at Rio Olympics and the World Championships, Caeleb Dressel signed a sponsorship deal with Swimming Sportswear giant, Speedo in 2018. 

🏊In swimming, height matters. Caeleb Dressel stands tall at a height of 6 ft 3 in (191 cm). This 190 pound (86 kg) swimming talent is most definitely built to swim fast.
