Contract situation will not affect signings, says Manchester City main man

Pep Guardiola insisted his contract situation at Manchester City would not affect the potential signings in the season.

Guardiola said he intends to honour the deal, which keeps him tied to the Citizens till 2021. However, the Spanish gaffer will be looking to strengthen next season after the league slipped out of their hands very easily this season.

Guardiola, while speaking to the UK newspapers, said," That's not the only reason they come here, because I am here. I'd say we have been in contact with others who didn't come when I was here."

"I think the club is big enough and good enough to be attractive for players who want to play in the way we do, or they watch TV and see us and the way we have played against them."

He also spoke about the opportunities, the players will get at Etihad and also the wages.

City are currently 22 points behind Liverpool and after their game with West Ham was postponed due to bad weather, they will not be able to reduce it to 19.

The Citizens are still alive in the Champions League, FA Cup and also the EFL Cup, with the final against Aston Villa the only hurdle to retain the cup.

Guardiola is still focusing on this season with Leicester City around. David Silva will also leave the club after this season and hence there will have to be some strengthening.

All this also included some praising of their former captain Vincent Kompany. Manchester City will be facing the Los Blancos in the Champions League last 16, a side that has been very impressive this season and are also the La Liga leaders.

The centre-back position was one of the most difficult positions to manage this season, after the long term injury to Aymeric Laporte but it was Fernandinho, who stood up and did very well even in a less favoured position.

There are still 13 games left in the league and with the Foxes just two points away, Guardiola will be looking to maintain the runner-up spot as Liverpool do not seem to stop.
