Sportco's Inspiring Olympic Stories: Sky Brown: Great Britain's 13-year-old Prodigy

When someone is mentored by the one and only Tony Hawk, you know that it is going to be someone special, and Sky Brown is nothing short of it.

Being a talented surfer and dancer, Brown is also one of the best skateboarders in the world already at the age of 13. At the young age of 11, she became the first-ever female skater to land a frontside 540.

Who is Sky Brown?

Sky Brown is a young girl from the United Kingdom who achieved the milestone of becoming the youngest athlete ever to represent Team Great Britain in the Olympics, at the age of 13 years and 11 days old.

Previously the record was held by Margery Hinton, who was 13 years and 43 days old. Brown went through an injury that could have possibly resulted in life but her return back into the sport is nothing short of a miracle.

Sky Brown's journey up to the Olympics

At the OI STU Open, the teenager finished 3rd and for the Dew Tour, the 13-year-old bettered herself by achieving the second position.

Sky Brown entered the Olympics after she managed to win the National Championships. She is currently ranked number 3 in the world rankings. Winning a medal for her country at the age of 13 is very much a possibility.

Life-Threatening Injury at the age of 12

It may already sound crazy how a 13-year-old is representing her country in the Olympics, what’s even crazier is that last year she almost lost her life.

Sky Brown fell from 15 feet on her head while she was performing a leap from one ramp to the other. This was a life-threatening injury as it fractured her skull when she was only 12. A fractured skull was not the only injury as she also broke her wrist and hand.

At such a young age, Sky Brown is an inspiration for kids younger than her and older than her as well. She likes to define herself as a “girly-girl”.

She has managed to win the hearts of millions of people with her story and smile. Her confident attitude and charming personality have also been a major reason for her success.

“I just want everyone to know it’s OK to fall sometimes,”

Regardless if the 13-year-old can bring in a medal or not, Sky Brown is already a legend in her country.

Brown is extremely young and we are confident that if the young skateboarding prodigy continues doing what she has been, she has the potential to go down as one of the best Olympians of all time

Her achievements at such a young age have already set her apart from everyone else.

We can assure you that you will be amazed by the performance of Sky Brown at the Tokyo Olympics.

Sky has also mentioned it herself by stating, "If people see me, the smallest girl, doing the highest trick, then anyone could think they could do anything."
