Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful managers who made a habit of winning trophies in whichever club he went to. He has managed three teams in his career, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City.

With Barcelona, Guardiola has tasted maximum success bagging numerous trophies, which includes winning two Champions League (2009,2011).

However, with Bayern Munich and Manchester City, he never tasted European glory, as he managed to chalk up domestic cups and league titles in Germany.

Although he inspired City to the Champions League final but failed to claim the trophy as they were blanked by Tuchel’s Chelsea 1-0.

However, Guardiola is considered as one of the most decorated managers in club football. Guardiola’s philosophy has always been possession-based, and attacking football, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City are testaments.

Jurgen Klopp is one of the charismatic figures of the game in today's time. His philosophy of high pressing and playing with intensity has reaped fruits of labor for his teams.

In his managerial profession, Klopp has managed three clubs, FC Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. However, he won his first-ever trophy as a manager with Borussia Dortmund; his tactics made the German side a dominating force in Europe as Klopp helped Dortmund reach the 2013 Champions League Final only to lose to their arch-rivals, Bayern Munich.

Nonetheless, Klopp has lost two UCL finals, one with Dortmund (2013) and the other with Liverpool (2018), and won one Champions League with Liverpool (2019).

Beginning of the rivalry

The rivalry started when they first met in Bundesliga while Klopp was managing Dortmund and Guardiola was with Bayern Munich. Although their rivalry wasn't quite fierce until both the managers arrived in England and a started high-voltage rivalry between Manchester City and Liverpool.
