The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup made its long-awaited debut on African soil with a vibrant opening ceremony in Seychelles, attended by an array of distinguished guests. Among them was the President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, who joined the President of the Republic of Seychelles, His Excellency Wavel Ramkalawan, for the historic occasion.

A dazzling display of music, dance, and cultural expression set the stage for what would be an electrifying start to the tournament, with the on-sand action living up to the excitement.
Group A Drama: Seychelles Fall Short in Spirited Opener
The hosts, Seychelles, thrilled the home crowd by taking an early lead in their Group A opener against Belarus through Remy de Ketelaere. What followed was a pulsating contest, with Belarus responding through a brace from Artsemi Drozd. Seychelles fought back valiantly, leveling twice thanks to goals from Brandon Labrosse and Terrence Amade. However, Drozd completed his hat-trick to restore Belarus's lead, and two more goals in the final period sealed a 6-3 win for the Eastern Europeans.
In the other Group A clash, Japan cruised to a 6-2 victory over Guatemala to get their campaign off to a flying start.
Group B Goal Fest: Mauritania Push Iran All the Way
Mauritania were involved in one of the day’s most thrilling encounters, narrowly losing 5-4 to Iran in a nine-goal spectacle. Iran, who finished third at the 2024 edition, surged to a 5-1 lead before Cheikh Belkheir spearheaded a Mauritanian fightback with a superb hat-trick. Ahmedou Bilal also got on the scoresheet, but the comeback fell just short.
Later in Group B, Portugal edged Paraguay in another high-octane encounter, running out 11-9 winners.

African champions Senegal begin their campaign on Friday when they face Spain in a crucial Group C clash. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:30 local time / 16:30 GMT, with fans eagerly anticipating a strong showing from the continent's top side.
