What Does El Salvador Need to Reach the 2025 Beach World Cup Quarterfinals?

The Salvadoran national beach soccer team faces a daunting challenge following their recent defeat to Oman in a dramatic penalty shootout. Despite back-to-back losses in their first two matches, they are still clinging to a slim hope of advancing to the next round of the 2025 Beach Soccer World Cup.

Brazil’s 2-1 victory over Italy has secured the South Americans a place in the knockout stage, increasing the pressure on Italy ahead of their final group match against El Salvador on Tuesday. The Central Americans head into the decisive fixture with zero points, while Italy sits on three points thanks to their earlier win against Oman.

However, Italy's qualification is not yet guaranteed. A loss to El Salvador could see them eliminated—especially if the margin is three goals or more. In that case, El Salvador would surpass Italy on goal difference. Additionally, to complete this unlikely turnaround, El Salvador would need Oman to lose their final match.

"We lost our focus in the third period; it just wasn’t our day. However, the match against Italy is still ahead of us, and we still have a chance. This isn’t over yet, and hopefully, with a bit of luck, we will pull through," stated Rubén Batres following the match.
